Indore: Virender Sehwag was touted to break the 200 run mark in ODIs first and when Sachin Tendulkar did the unthinkable, the Master pinned the onus next on Sehwag and the Nawab of Najafgarh obliged and went precisely 19 ahead with a maniac innings of 219.

But according to Viru, he never dreamt of the magical figure. Talking after the first innings at Indore in the 4th ODI, the maverick opener said. “I never dreamed of reaching the milestone. I was not at all thinking about 200 till the batting powerplay was taken”.

Sehwag had a poor run of form and he got his partner Guatam Gamhir to open with him for the first time in the series and rest, as it is said, is history. He also added, “I was talking to Gauti all throughout and told him that we can score big. We have to bat patiently and if we bat till the 30 overs we can put up a huge total. The wicket is a true batting pitch and hitting the gaps was the key”.

When asked about the expectations from the fans, he was quick to counter stating, “Everyone expected this from me and I live on expectations. When Sammy dropped the catch, I thought god has helped me to get to 200”.

India on course for second successive ODI series triumph

Ahmedabad: With a 2-0 lead in hand, India are firmly on course to record a second successive one-day series triumph at home as they take on West Indies in the third ODI of the five-match rubber at the Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium in Motera here tomorrow. Although it has not been without some hiccups, the hosts look all set to hand out another defeat to the visiting side and take a winning 3-0 lead at the ground where they dethroned 2007 champions Australia on March 24 on their way to grabbing cricket's most coveted crown the World Cup. India, by all counts, are holding all the trump cards and should clinch the series unless they self-destruct or the Windies punch above their weight. A win tomorrow would give a consecutive series triumph to India after they mauled England 5-0. The Virender Sehwag-led hosts have shown exemplary tenaciousness in the face of deep trouble to win the first two games of the series at Cuttack (by a narrow one wicket) and Vishakapatnam (by five wickets). They struggled to overcome a very modest target of 212 set by the Darren Sammy-led Windies in the first ODI and then failed to deliver the knock-out blow when they had the visitors on the hop at 170 for 9 in the second match. On the first occasion, Virender Sehwag and company had to be rescued by the last wicket pair of Varun Aaron and Umesh Yadav who stitched a vital stand of 12 runs to pilot them across the finish line. Windies batting is so inconsistent and lacks purpose In the second game too India allowed Ravi Rampaul to smash a world record score for a no. 10 batsman, 86 not out in 66 balls with six sixes and as many fours, to help his team amass a challenging 269 after they were 170 for 9 through a fighting, unfinished last wicket stand of 99 with Kemar Roach who made 24 not out. It needed a determined and tenacious stand of 163 runs between young guns Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to guide India to a victory after they were in difficulties at 84 for 3. What must be pleasing to the home team's management is that the victories had been achieved without significant contributions from the Big Two in the batting line-up - stand-in captain and opener Sehwag and no.3 Gautam Gambhir. With Parthiv Patel too flopping badly at the top, India had to bank on Sharma's consistency and Kohli's return to form to shore up the middle and dig them out of difficulties in game two. Sharma has had a very good run since his return to the team after the unfortunate first-ball injury he sustained in the ODI series in England that ruled him out of the return series. The talented Mumbai batsman was in very good touch in the Caribbean and seems to have taken a liking to the Windies bowling attack. Kohli, who was part of the Dhoni-led team that lifted the coveted World Cup in Mumbai on April 2, has also scored runs aplenty in ODIs this year. The Delhi youngster has become the second-highest batsman after England's Jonathan Trott with a tally of 1258 runs from 31 games at just over 46 with four centuries to boot, three of them in his last eight appearances. In the absence of Sachin Tendulkar at the top and regular captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni at the end of the innings, as well as Yuvraj Singh, the batting has relied a lot on these two youngsters and it is time for the likes of Sehwag and Gambhir fire.

London: Legend Dev Anand dies after cardiac arrest

New Delhi: Legendary actor Dev Anand, the 'evergreen romantic superstar' of Indian cinema, died in London on Saturday night following a cardiac arrest. He was 88.

According to reports, Dev Anand died in his sleep at the Washington Mayfair Hotel where he was staying. The hotel is owned by local Indian businessman Joginder Sangar.
His son Sunil Anand had accompanied him to London for treatment. The hotel staff called an ambulance after family alerted them, but he died before he could be taken to hospital.

The family have issued a statement asking them to be left alone in this hour of grief.
Amitabh Bachchan on Sunday morning tweeted, "Just reading news about Dev Saheb.. praying it is not true... He was such a positive person.. never associated death with him.."
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday condoled Dev Anand's death and said, "Dev Anand was a great artiste who entertained generations of cinema lovers over five decades. He was an embodiment of a life long passion for acting and film making. I join millions of his fans in mourning his death."
UPA Chief Sonia Gandhi and Information Ambika Soni also condoled Dev Anand's death.
Dev Anand made his debut as an actor in 1946 in 'Hum Ek Hain'. By the time his 'Ziddi' was released in 1947 he was a superstar and has never looked back.
Versatile Dev Anand has given countless hits like 'Paying Guest', 'Baazi', 'Jewel Thief ', 'CID', 'Johny Mera Naam', 'Amir Garib', 'Warrant', 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' and 'Des
Pardes'.
For his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, Dev Anand was honoured with the prestigious the 'Padma Bhushan' in 2001 and 'Dada Saheb Phalke Award' in 2002.
He established his film production company 'Navketan International Films' in 1949 and has produced more than 35 movies.
Dev Anand won two Filmfare Awards - India's equivalent of the Oscars - in 1958 for his performance in the film 'Kala Paani' (Black Water) and in 1966 for his performance in 'Guide'.
'Guide' went on to win Filmfare Awards in five other categories including 'Best Film' and 'Best Director' and was sent as India's entry for the Oscars in the foreign film
category that year.
He co-produced the English Version of 'Guide' with the Nobel Laureate Pearl S Buck ('The Good Earth').
In 1993, he received a Filmfare 'Lifetime Achievement Award' and in 1996 he received a Screen Videocon 'Lifetime Achievement Award'.
Of late he was involved in the direction of a new all American film Project 'Song Of Life' - a musical love story which was to be shot in the United States.
He was to play the central character in the film which was to have a predominantly American star cast.
Dev Anand is the second of three brothers who were active in Hindi Cinema. His brothers are Chetan Anand and Vijay Anand. Their sister, Sheel Kanta Kapur, is the mother of renowned film director Shekhar Kapur.

Ralegan Siddhi, Maharashtra Bringing Rahul Gandhi in the line of fire, Anna Hazare today alleged Congress might have taken a U-turn on the contentious issues of lower bureaucracy and CBI in Lokpal under instructions of the young leader. He claimed the government was delaying a resolution on FDI to avoid passing the Jan Lokpal Bill in the winter session of Parliament.

Hazare launched a scathing attack on the government accusing it of dishonouring an assurance given by Parliament and later by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that the Lokpal would include the lower bureaucracy, the Citizen's Charter and state Lokayuktas.
“I think there is no coordination in this government. The Standing Committee took a decision (on the inclusion of Group C employees in Lokpal). I think after this decision was taken, Rahul Gandhi must have said... no, no, no.”
“They operate under instructions given by him. I think it is Rahul Gandhi who has instructed them not to include Group C and D employees under Lokpal. This is my guess. If you don't include this, the public will teach you a lesson,” he told reporters.
Hazare's comments came a day after the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Lokpal decided against the inclusion of Group C employees under the ombudsman and to have a new set-up to select the CBI director as against its earlier decision.
Asked why the government was not resolving the FDI imbroglio to ensure the smooth functioning of Parliament, Hazare said he suspected this was deliberate as the govenrment “doesn't want the Bill to be passed”.
Describing the move as a “betrayal of the entire country,” Hazare said, “On one hand, the Prime Minister says corruption is to be curbed but on the other, you say Group C and D staff will not be brought under the Lokpal ambit.”
For incorporating these provisions, you do not need to spend any extra money or have additional personnel, he said.
“We have said from the beginning that Lokpal should be an autonomous institution. Today, the CBI is under the government's control. We are saying there should be autonomy, that the government should not have control (over CBI),” he said. On Gandhi's demand for conferring Constitutional status to Lokpal, Hazare said he was not against the idea but warned against government interference.
